Mokotahi Beach is a very safe for swimming. It is very flat and sheltered. It is situated at the base of Mokotahi Hill which is a prominent feature of the peninsula. There are public toilets close by on the grassed reserve area and facilities to launch and wash boats. The reserve area is ideal for picnicking, car parking and there is a children's play area close by.
From Wairoa, take SH 2 to Nuhaka. Continue straight ahead to Opoutama. At Opoutama cross over the railway line towards Mahia. Mokotahi Beach can be reached by turning right onto Moana Drive, and then right onto Newcastle Street, past the Mahia Beach Store. There is parking on the grassed area adjacent to the beach.
