This drive will provide you with amazing views over rolling hills, farmland and grazing animals. Along Ruakituri Road there are a few options to stay overnight. Fishing for trout in Ruakituri River is world renowned.
If you have time make a trip along Papuni Road. It has a lot to offer as it runs beside the Ruakituri River, renowned for trout fishing, to Erepiti Scenic Reserve and Ruakituri Scenic Reserve. There are plenty of places to park, picnic, fish or swim.
Be aware that some of the roads on this route are unsealed!
From Wairoa, head towards Lake Waikaremoana on SH38. In Frasertown, turn right onto Tiniroto Road and follow it for about 25.9kms before turning left at Te Reinga onto Ruakituri Road. After about 20kms, continue straight on Erepeti Road. After about 10kms, continue on Ohuka Road. Ohuka Road will take you back to SH38, where you can either head north to Lake Waikaremoana or south to Wairoa via Frasertown.
