This is a favourite with locals on a hot summer’s day, bring your boogie board to slide down the short but fast rock slide, or just enjoy the swimming hole. A great spot for the whole family.
From Wairoa head towards Lake Waikaremoana on SH38. Cross the bridge heading into Frasertown and turn right onto Mangapoike Road. Follow Mangapoike Road for about 17kms. Turn right onto Hereheretau Road and keep going for about 4.5kms. Watch out for a pond-like swimming hole and a rock-slide on the left-hand side. Park next to the road and follow the path down to Makaretu Stream.
